Omnibook offers a free platform for #NaNoWriMo authors¶
Sometimes you need a little push to jump. The “National Novel Writing Month” (NaNoWriMo) makes over 300,000 authors jump into the adventure of writing a book every year. They all sign up to the challenge: write a novel from scratch in the month of November.

Little did they know that NaNoWriMo nudged Booktype into taking a leap as well, a leap of a different kind. We are launching Omnibook.pro in the last week of October to support the authors signing up to NaNoWriMo, with free, collaborative book production entirely based in the browser. How did that happen?
For three years we have been providing authors and publishers with Booktype, meaning that they could sign up for Booktype without having to install the server themselves. The recent release of Booktype 2.0 featuring many improvements in technology and design, usability and server architecture triggered us to rethinking the services we offer from scratch.
We cleared our heads, took the design thinking approach and started with the problems and wishes of authors, rather than being overwhelmed by the many features Booktype had to offer. This simple change of perspective created a tectonic shift in our understanding of Booktype as a service.
You never write alone (unless you want to)
We came to realise that the strength of Booktype as an online service is the community it can build around writing books. Writing can be a solitary experience. With Booktype you never write alone, unless you want to. Booktype allows any author to create groups, share books, chat live with other authors, even invite them to read or edit your work.
You can start new projects with new friends that you met on the platform. Having said this, you can still lock yourself in, hide your book from the public and work alone just the way you would using a typewriter in the attic, or a shack in the woods. At any moment, you can open the doors and windows and let the sun shine in.
NaNoWriMo is a “fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing”. We want to be the place to write a book, meet other authors who signed up for the same challenge, and export in multiple formats with a few mouse clicks. When we looked at the software we had built, we realised we can take the plunge and just do it. Omnibook is in beta mode for now; you can improve it by giving feedback and reporting bugs. It is important to understand that Omnibook has no formal relationship with NaNoWriMo, we are an independent initiative supporting writers.
A social platform for producing books
Omnibook is a place for authors to get creative, exchange ideas, discuss and collaborate, a social platform for writing and producing books. If you register now, you can write one book and create quality print and ebook versions of your book for free.
We continue to develop Booktype for organisations including Amnesty International, Books on Demand and leading universities across Europe. Omnibook is the platform which will bring the benefits of Booktype to the general public, for the first time. So if you haven’t yet written that great novel inside of you, now’s your chance!
